What you need to make Seasoned Green Beans
- Green beans. You can use fresh or frozen green beans. I prefer fresh beans since they are readily available all year long, but I keep frozen green beans on hand for vegetable emergencies. I like to use French green beans for their long slender shape.
- Butter. Since the butter is for sautéing, do not substitute margarine (the water content is too high). You could substitute extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil, but I prefer the flavor of butter.
- Italian dressing mix. In my opinion, the perfect balance of herbs and aromatics in Italian dressing mix is the best green bean seasoning (and so easy!), but if you do not have any available, you could substitute your own combination of garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian herb blend.

How to make Seasoned Green beans
I am using fresh green beans in these photos, but you can use frozen beans (petite green beans work well). Get started by washing the beans, snapping the ends off, and breaking them in half.
Now they are ready to be steamed.
In a microwave steamer or stovetop steamer basket, steam the green beans until they are tender-crisp.
While the beans are steaming, start melting the butter in a medium fry pan over low heat.
Drain the beans thoroughly after steaming. Add the steamed beans to the butter and sauté for 2-3 minutes. I like to be sure each green bean has a nice coating of the melted butter for the Italian seasoning to adhere to.
Shake the Italian dressing mix packet before opening so it is well mixed before you sprinkle it. Sprinkle some of the Italian dressing mix over the beans. Start with a little (about ¼ packet) and increase to taste.
Sauté for 2-3 more minutes. That's it! Quick and easy.
If desired, garnish with grated Parmesan cheese.
Storage and freezing
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.
If you would like to freeze Seasoned Green Beans, slightly undercook them when you prepare them. Store in an airtight freezer container for up to six months.
